Nidotherapy Workshop 2024

The 18 th Annual Nidotherapy Workshop was held at the NIDUS-UK Advice and
Training Centre in Cotham, Nottinghamshire on 31 st October and 1 st November.
This was the first to be held in the new centre and numbers were limited
because this was the first formal meeting in the Centre since the opening and
new furniture and provisions had not been tested before.

23 delegates attended in person and six others from the UK, Iran, India,
Germany and Sweden came to online sessions.

The major talks were given by Dr Peter Carter, Trustee of NIDUS-UK and former
CEO of the Royal College of Nursing (State of Mental Health Services Today),
Professor Tim Kendall (until recently, Mental Health Director, NHS
England)(New Neighbourhood Services to Improve Community Care), and
Professors Yanyang Xing, Andrew Guest and Ms Carolyn Thomas of Nottingham
Trent University (Biophilia). Sergeant Eleanor Cooke of the RAF also presented a
paper on the acceptability of nidotherapy in the armed services, a study for
which she had received a Distinction for her Master’s degree.

Excellent refreshments were provided by Kostas Kostakis throughout the two
days, and some delegates attended a sumptuous Diwali dinner at Koinonia
Resturant in Newark on the evening of 31 st October. Despite the dates of the
meeting pumpkins did not appear on the menu and Halloween stayed in the
background.
